New Delhi: National anomaly committee for settlement issues arising out of the implementation of the 7th Pay Commission’s recommendations, will meet central government employees unions leaders today to discuss their demands ahead of central trade unions proposed nation-wide strike on Friday.
The promise was made by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley to consider to hike the minimum pay of central government employees beyond Rs 18,000.
It will be the first meeting of the national anomaly committee with central government employees unions leaders over the main demand of hiking minimum pay Rs 18,000 to Rs 26,000 against the recommendations of the 7th Pay Commission.
Asked about the meeting, National Joint Council of Action convener Shiv Gopal Mishra told reporter, “We have been invited for talks on September 1 in Delhi ahead of proposed nationwide general strike on 2 September and we have agreed to participate in the talks,” and we will ask the national anomaly committee about progress on our main demand like minimum pay. The government has assured us they will act on minimum pay, but so far nothing as happened.”
He further said: “If we do not get answer on the status and what government has done on this demand, we will go on the country-wide strike with trade unions on Friday.”
The National Joint Council of Action (NJCA) is an umbrella organisation of various Central Government employees’ unions, including Railways, post and telegraph and Income Tax.
The other main demand of central government employees is hike in fixed medical allowance for pensioners beyond existing Rs 500.
The promise was made by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley to consider to hike the minimum pay of central government employees beyond Rs 18,000 at Home Minister Rajnath Singh’s house a day after the cabinet cleared 7th Pay Commission award, when he met with representatives of central government employees unions’ leaders.
“It is most unfortunate that in spite of Finance Minister’s promise, the government has not cared to make any attempt to hike minimum pay,” a union leader said.
“Therefore, we want to resolve to declare one day national strike on September 2.” The national anomaly committee has invited us for a meeting on Friday to discuss the minimum pay issue for preventing us to go on strike, he added.
It is noted that central government employees unions demanded for hiking minimum pay Rs 18,000 to Rs 26,000 and the and asked to raising fitment factor 3.68 times from 2.57 times approved by the government based on the pay commission recommendations.
If the 2.57 fitment formula is tinkered with, then salary and pension in general for all central government employees will go up.
