Tributes to Baba Saheb on his 125th anniversary today

Nation pays tributes to Babasaheb Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar on his 125th birth anniversary; Prime Minister Narendra Modi to launch a 11-day Gram Uday se Bharat Uday Abhiyan at Mhow in Madhya Pradesh today; PM will also launch a portal of e-mandis to enable farmers to get better price of their produce.

Nation today pays rich tributes to the Dalit icon and the principal architect of the Indian Constitution Dr Babasaheb Bheemrao Ambedkar, on his 125th birth anniversary. The day is being observed as "Social harmony Day" all over the country.  Main function is being organized in the Parliament house where President Pranab Mukherjee, Vice President Hamid Ansari, Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan, besides various political leaders and peoples from different walks of life will pay floral tributes at the statue of Babasaheb.  Functions are also being organized all over the country to remember contribution of Babasaheb in the building of the nation and specially in drafting the constitution. Portraits of Babasaheb will be garlanded at village Panchayats and literature about his life and work will be distributed. Discussions about his teaching and work will also be held.  Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar laid the foundation of social reforms in the country in true sense. The best tribute to Babasaheb would be in strengthening social harmony in the country.  For the first time, United Nations observed the birth anniversary of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. The 125th birth anniversary Dr. Ambedkar was commemorated at the UN headquarters in New York.  A Panel Discussion was held on the theme 'Combating inequalities for the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals' with the objective of raising awareness on the importance of addressing all forms of inequality.  In his opening remarks, India's Permanent Representative to UN, Ambassador Syed Akbaruddin said that Dr. Ambedkar fashioned a pluralistic and inclusive Indian Constitution guaranteeing equal opportunity and freedom of expression and faith for all citizens in a secular democracy.  Ms. Helen Clark, Chair of the United Nations Development Group and the Administrator of the United Nations Development Program was the Keynote Speaker.  The event was organized by the Permanent Mission of India to the UN in association with the Kalpana Saroj Foundation and Foundation For Human Horizon.
